Over 50,000 containers stuck at 3 major ports in ChennaiLogYcode
With truck drivers heading back to their hometowns due to the Covid-19 lockout, the 23 Container Freight Stations (CFS) and private container terminals at Chennai, Kamajarar and Kattupalli ports are lying uncleared at more than 50,000 sea containers.
The Tamil Nadu police agreed to help locate the drivers and carry them safely to Chennai to ensure container movement begins immediately and the backlog is cleared over the next 10 days, said P Raveendran, Chairman, Chennai Port Trust (ChPT). It’s important that the containers are removed from CFSs and ports before the end of the April 14 lockout, or else the mass evacuation of the boxes after the lockout would result in road congestion, he told BusinessLine.
