India caught in middle of global pharma supply chain that starts from China & delivers drugs to world

Following the US President Donald Trump’s telephone conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, India on Monday agreed to partially approve the export of hydroxychloroquine, an anti-malaria medication essential to combat the Covid-19 pandemic along with several other medicines like paracetamol.

The US president’s appeal for India to extend its drug exports to these countries was accompanied by calls from Australia, France, Germany, UK, Brazil, Israel and Bahrain. The requests and calls show how India is situated in the global pharmaceutical supply chain, and how relevant the pharmaceutical industry in India is to the globe.
