First shipment on India-Iran-Afghanistan TIR corridor moves via Chabahar port

On Friday, two containers from Mumbai were transported to Iran’s Chabahar port, exiting via Dogharoun border crossing to Afghanistan marking the first shipment under TIR Carnets (TIR Convention) on India-Iran-Afghanistan road.

In March 2019, the first shipment was transported from Afganistan to Mumbai and Gujrat via Chabahar via the Afghanistan-Iran-India TIR route. On 15 June 2017, India entered the TIR Convention (the United Nations Customs Agreement on Foreign Goods Trade under the umbrella of TIR Carnets).

The Indian Government operates the Chabahar port jointly by India Ports Global Private Limited, a joint venture between Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust and Kandla Port Trust.
