Don’t charge EXIM shipments on container detention: Ministry of shipping

The Ministry of Shipping has advised the shipping lines not to enforce any container retention charges on import and export shipments for the duration from 22 March 2020 to 14 April 2020, over and above the free-time agreements already accepted and used as part of any contractual terms concluded.

“The Advisory was given to establish sufficient supply lines at Indian seaports. The shipping lines were also advised not to enforce any new or increased charges during this time. This decision is a purely one-time measure to deal with present disruptions caused by COVID-19 pandemic,” says the MoS release.
