Coronavirus: Private airports want to levy extra charge with airline fares

The Association of Private Airport Operators (APAO) urged the government to approve the charging of passenger facilitation as part of airline tariffs to cover operators ‘ increased operating expenses due to coronavirus outbreak.

The representative noted in a letter sent to the Ministry of Civil Aviation that the airport operators are now in a situation of serious financial difficulty and require relief/support to continue airport operations.

Meanwhile, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) tweeted “India’s private airports need to make a fact check of their proposal to introduce a new levy at a time when demand for passengers is plummeting due to the COVID19 outbreak.”
